Flights from Toronto to Europe for under $500 roundtrip after taxes have been non-existent this year, but it looks like SATA International has some flights to Ponta Delgada in the Azores in November for just $479. The Azores are about 1500km off the coast of Portugal. Close enough I say!
They're available for November travel, and the flights are non-stop (direct) each way. Here's some links to a few example date searches on Kayak...

July flights to Portugal are now cheap - $396 roundtrip after tax

They're not quite as cheap as the ridiculous June flights, but it looks like July prices to Lisbon, Portugal just dropped. Will they drop to sub-$300 levels like they did in June ? Impossible to say, but sub-$400 to Portugal in peak summer season is still pretty amazing.

Yes, that June 20 to 28 flight from Toronto to Porto, Porutgal has dropped another $50. Because a flight from Toronto to Portugal for $330 roundtrip after all taxes apparently wasn't crazy enough.
