"I'm a travel junkie who's hooked on deals from YYZ." - Chris Myden

November
Toronto to Tokyo, Japan - $615 to $662 CAD roundtrip including taxes | ANA flights

Tokyo, Japan

All Nippon Airways (ANA), a really great airline (ranked #3 worldwide this year), is showing flights from Toronto to Tokyo, Japan for $627 to $662 CAD roundtrip including taxes.

The flights have 1 stop each way, usually in Chicago or Vancouver.

The domestic legs (between Toronto and Chicago or Vancouver) may be operated by Air Canada or United Airlines.

The overseas legs are with All Nippon Airways (ANA).

The flights may be to either of Tokyo's 2 airports, Haneda (HND) or Narita (NRT).

The flights may be into one airport, and home from the other.

Flights to Japan have been quite expensive lately ($1100+ roundtrip). Have a look on Google Flights to see what most flights to Japan are going for.

Availability for travel

November, December 2017

January, February, March 2018

How to find and book these flights

1. Go to Momondo or Skyscanner

2. Search for a flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Tokyo, Japan (TYO)

Try the following dates:

DEPARTURE dates

Try Tuesday or Wednesday dates in January, February, or March 2018.

You can also try Monday and Thursday dates.

You may also be able to find some in November and the first half of December 2017.

RETURN dates

Try Tuesday or Wednesday dates in January, February, or March 2018.

You can also try Monday and Thursday dates.

You may also be able to find some in November and the first half of December 2017.

NOTE: After your Momondo search completes, some of the first flights that you see at the top of your results may have a ridiculously short connection in Chicago (59 minutes).

Try clicking on 'All Nippon Airways has another XX results' and then scroll down the Momondo results to look for flights with better connection times (2-3 hours). Look for flights with around 15 to 18 hours of total travel time.

IMPORTANT: Once you get to the booking site, study the flight details carefully, and make sure the overseas part of the journey is operated by All Nippon (ANA) and not United Airlines.

ALSO IMPORTANT: If you really want to make sure the flights are with ANA, I would *only* trust the flight times that are showing on the booking site and make sure they actually match up with ANA flight times. I wouldn't necessarily trust the airline name or image that is showing on the booking site.

See the paragraph below about using flight times to find flights that are with ANA. These are code-share flights, and I know booking sites can often display the wrong airline name and image with code-share flights.

Here are some tips for helping to locate the flights that are actually operated by All Nippon Airways and not United Airlines, by using flight times.

1. After your Momondo search completes, use the 'Time of day (Return)' slider on the left hand side, and set it to '21:00 - 22:00'.

We're doing this to filter it down to the flights that leave Tokyo at the end of our trip at 21:45.

These are always ANA flights.

2. It's a little trickier to make sure the flight on the way there is also with ANA.

What you can do is click on 'See Details' under each Momondo search result.

You want to focus on the second leg of the first flight. The one from a North American city to Tokyo...

Look for the flights that match up with the following flight times:

Chicago to Tokyo, departing at:
10:25
16:15

Washington to Tokyo, departing at:
10:55

Vancouver to Tokyo, departing at:
15:05

^^^ These are the departure times for flights that are operated by ANA.

If the booking site does not show flights that match the flight times above, I wouldn't trust that they are actually ANA flights, no matter what the booking site is displaying for the airline name or logo.

3. Now, make careful note of the flight times that you're seeing on Momondo and click through to the booking site.

Let's say it's FareGeek that you're clicking through to.

Once you get to FareGeek, look for the results that have flight times that match up with what you found on Momondo.

It may not be the first result you see on FareGeek. Try all of the ones that have the same departure time as the one you found on Momondo.

And then be sure to look carefully at the flight details on the booking site.

If you can't find ANA flights in both directions, it can be worth trying a date one day before or after.

I've seen quite a few examples of ANA operated flights both ways using Tuesday to Tuesday dates.

You can also try searching for these on Skyscanner, and looking for the ANA operated flights on there.

1. Go to Skyscanner

3. Once your Skyscanner search completes, try clicking on the 'Times' icon above the result.

Set the RETURN flight slider to 21:00 and up.

Similar to our Momondo technique above, this should narrow down our return flights in the Skyscanner results to ANA flights only.

4. Now have a look at the Skyscanner results again.

Scroll down through the Skyscanner results, and for our DEPARTURE flight (left hand side), look for the flights where the second leg is operated by ANA.

5. Click through from Skyscanner to the booking site (I've been seeing most of them on FareDepot).

And then be sure to look carefully at the flight details on the booking site, to make sure the flights are operated by ANA, and not United Airlines.

If you can't find ANA flights in both directions, it can be worth trying a date one day before or after.

I've seen quite a few examples of ANA flights both ways using Tuesday to Tuesday dates.

Update @ 4:30 PM EST - I've seen some flights on Skyscanner for as low as $615 CAD roundtrip including taxes, operated by ANA in both directions.

They were both Thursday to Monday dates... (could be some more Thursday to Mondays out there)

Nov 30 to Dec 11

Jan 18 to Jan 29

The price jumps to $615 CAD roundtrip when you click through to Fare Depot.
